After the distance mode this spring term, University West plans to start the autumn term in a mixed mode where teaching is conducted both on campus and at a distance. To facilitate for both teachers and students the following measures are being prepared:
Technical update of classrooms
During the atumn term, there will probably be students, for various reasons, who can not attend physically at lectures on campus. In order to facilitate distance participation for these students, we will install a camera and microphone in most of the classrooms. Teachers will then be able to connect their computer to the camera and use Zoom if needed. The solution is deliberately "good enough" since interaction for those who attend at a distance is limited (they can only use the Zoom chat). This solution will be installed in most classrooms for more than 30 students.
To make everyone feel comfortable, IMS will offer several workshops on the theme "the connected classroom" during V. 34-35. More information will be published on www.hv.se/distanslage in early August.
Mobile camera solutions
Since cameras are not installed in all classrooms (smaller rooms, computer rooms etc.), a number of mobile camera solutions will also be available.
Information module for students in Canvas
All Canvas Courses during the autumn that starts week 36-45 (in addition to the courses that are traditional distance courses), we will add a module where students will receive general introductory information. The module will contain links to useful web information, videos etc. for students to get started on their studies. There will also be a link to a movie where our Vice-Chancellor welcomes all new students to University West. Students will also receive tips on distance learning and the mixed format.
Zoom rooms at all Canvas courses
At all Canvas courses, we will automatically create a Zoom room to facilitate in case the teaching is conducted remotely. The room will be active and function throughout the course. Both teacher and students choose the current room when Zoom is scheduled.
Webinar on teaching and examining in distance mode
On Thursday and Friday V.34, IMS will conduct lunch seminars where the focus is to share good examples from the spring term's distance mode - as inspiration for the autumn. You will be able to participate both on campus or via Zoom. More information will be published in August at www.hv.se/distanslage
Current workshops in August for all departments
During V.34 and 35, IMS will offer workshops to all departments on the following three themes:
- Create and use recorded material in your teaching
- Group work at a distance
- Examination via Canvas
Days and times will be announced in August and will be published on the web page "Teaching Remotely".
The Student´s schedule is in the calendar in Canvas
On all Canvas courses that starts in the autumn term 2020, the link to the schedule in Kronox has now been removed from the Course Information module. Instead, students should use the schedule displayed in the Canvas Calendar. The web site will be updated with this information.
MyPage for students is removed
MyPage has been removed for our students and now they will find all links to systems and tools in the toolbox at Student. MyPage provided access to Microsoft Office365. Now there is a direct link to Office365 from the toolbox at "Student".
Staff are not affected by this change and will continue to have MyPage.
About the introduction days for new students
The introduction days will be adjusted and we will make sure that all information that a new student needs will be available on the web. The work is ongoing, but will not be nailed until close to the autumn term starts. More information will come in August.
• The first days in week 36 are important for programme- and introduction meetings for our new students starting year 1
• The Student Union will have guides (faddrar) who show our new students to the right place
• In "Stråket" the new students will find personnel from our support functions
More detailed information will soon be sent to the programme managers.
What applies to students and staff at a risk?
University West has made a decision regarding what applies to students who are at risk for Covid-19. For example, these students, in consultation with teachers, should be offered distance education if possible.
You find more information for students here (In Swedish under "Vanliga frågor och svar").
Staff at a risk who need to work from home, please talk to your nearest manager - this is based on Vice-Chancellor´s policy decision concerning adapted return to campus, June 8. Intensive work is also ongoing to adapt common areas on campus based on current recommendations.
"Inslussningen" is currently planned both with physical and digital activities during the first two weeks. There will be games, barbecue evenings, online games and quiz. Of course, we follow the authorities' recommendations and do everything we can to ensure that the students get a safe and secure start - and at the same time get to know each other, the university and the city. Closer to the start of the autumn term, more information will be found on inslussningen.se.
