Spotlight on EU4Health for a healthier and safer EU

A spotlight. Photo

Drawing conclusions from the current COVID-19 pandemic, the European Commission presented an ambitious health programme in May 2020, called EU4Health. It aims to demonstrate a higher priority to health and to help health systems get prepared to cope with epidemics and other unforeseeable health threats. With a budget of €9.4billion for the period 2021-2017, EU4Health will be the largest European health programme ever.

Embedded in the ‘One health’ approach, which recognises the interconnection between human health and animal health and more broadly with the environment, the EU4Health Programme can support Member States in the transition to better preparedness and the reinforcement of their health systems and support them in achieving the health-related United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This programme is of particular importance to the EIP on AHA partners who have directly suffered the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. This programme provides a great opportunity to help European regions and territories to be better prepared to respond to similar crisis situations in the future.

Call for proposals under the new EU4Health programme will be published in 2021. Eligible entities will be EU countries, healthcare providers and NGOs.
